Pakistan's bullion market closed the second week of September on the back foot, with gold settling at Rs 449,000 per tola against last Saturday's Rs 456,500, according to Goldalyze rate data. The Rs 7,500 decline works out to 1.64% on the week, with five of six sessions finishing lower. The week's high was Rs 456,000 and the low Rs 448,500.

Silver held up better. The 999 rate eased just Rs 100 to Rs 6,800 per tola, a 1.45% decline, with a weekly range of Rs 6,750 to Rs 7,050. Crucially, silver never went near its Rs 6,650 structural floor — a divergence worth noting, because the metal with the weaker long-term chart was the one that defended its line this week.

Internationally, gold slipped roughly 0.87% and finished Friday between $4,373 and $4,391 an ounce. The session was violent: bullion broke under $4,300 in the morning before rebounding 1.29% after the inflation release to reclaim the 100-day moving average at $4,335. Silver had a far rougher ride, peaking at $68.50 on September 10 before shedding more than 5% in Thursday's session alone and ending Friday at $63.99 — a round trip of about $4.50 in four days.

Inflation did the damage. August producer prices rose 5.4% year on year, with energy costs up 4.2% on the back of the Iran conflict. Friday's consumer price index then came in at 0.4% on the month and 3.4% on the year, with core inflation rising 0.3% monthly — a tenth above forecast — and 2.4% annually. Gasoline alone climbed 3.9% in the month and is 27.4% higher than a year ago. Odds of a quarter-point Federal Reserve hike on September 16 jumped to roughly 86% from around 60% at the start of the week, and Treasury yields hit a near three-year high.

The political backdrop is unusually loud. The president, vice president and Treasury secretary all publicly urged the Fed not to raise rates, with Trump threatening to halt trade with countries running surpluses against the US unless borrowing costs come down. Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh, meanwhile, faces inflation data pointing the other way. That standoff is the single biggest driver of gold right now.

The war kept oil bid. Brent gained about 9% on the week to settle near $104 after touching $108 on Thursday, as Houthi forces seized the Yemeni port of Mokha and advanced toward Bab el-Mandeb, Iran claimed strikes on two US Navy vessels and eight tankers, and Saudi Arabia shut its East-West pipeline as a precaution. Hormuz traffic fell to seven vessels on Thursday from 18 on Tuesday. On Saturday Trump said the war would likely end soon after November's midterms and energy prices would fall sharply, while Iranian and Gulf officials are due to meet in Muscat on Monday to discuss a temporary shipping arrangement through the strait.

On Goldalyze's parity math, Friday's international price and a USD/PKR rate near 277.30 imply a local equivalent of about Rs 455,000 per tola against the actual Rs 449,000 close — meaning the domestic market has not yet priced Friday's late recovery. Official sarafa rates are confirmed at 3 PM daily.

The week ahead is the month's decider: Hormuz talks Monday, the Fed on Wednesday, the Bank of England Thursday and the Bank of Japan Friday. With a hike largely priced in, the move will come from what the Fed signals about December rather than from the decision itself.
