The first week of October delivered exactly the news gold holders have been waiting months for. Gold fell anyway. That is the week in one sentence, and it is more important than the price.

According to Goldalyze rate data, the Karachi piece opened Saturday at Rs 439,000 and fixed at Rs 437,000 at 3 PM, with a late print of Rs 437,500 in the evening. Against last Saturday's Rs 447,500 close, that is a loss of Rs 10,500, or 2.35%, on the week. Lahore closed at Rs 436,000, Peshawar at Rs 448,500, and the local average at Rs 431,000. Silver 999 finished at Rs 6,600, down Rs 200 or 2.94%. Dubai's indicative rate was Rs 439,000.

Friday brought the data. US non-farm payrolls rose just 29,000 in September against a forecast of 90,000. More damaging still, August's blockbuster 162,000 was revised down to 133,000. Unemployment ticked up to 4.2% from 4.1%, and average wages rose only 0.1%. For gold this was the ideal print: October rate-hike odds, near a coin flip days earlier, collapsed to under 15%.

And gold fell. Spot dropped 0.8% on the day to $4,145.68 an ounce, down about 3.3% on the week — a second consecutive weekly decline. Silver fell 1.1% to $60.17.

Consider the symmetry. On 19 September, Goldalyze published a piece headlined *The Fed Hiked And Gold Rose Anyway*. Today the headline is the mirror image: the economy cracked and gold sold off anyway. Both times the news everyone was watching was the wrong thing to watch.

The right thing is in the bond market. On Thursday, ten- and thirty-year Treasury yields hit their highest levels since 2002, and even after a weak payrolls print the ten-year held around 5.28%. While an investor can collect better than 5% from the US government with no risk, an asset that pays nothing has to fight for every dollar — and good monetary news cannot override that arithmetic. Oil compounded it, staying firm on fears of renewed escalation between Washington and Tehran, which keeps the inflation story alive and keeps yields where they are.

Domestically, Thursday's Goldalyze piece warned that Pakistan was trading Rs 8,700 above import parity and that the gap would open if international prices stayed put. Roughly Rs 4,000 of that premium has since closed. At $4,145.68 and an interbank dollar of 277.16, parity now implies about Rs 430,850 against a market at Rs 437,000 — still Rs 6,150 rich.

The most significant technical event of the week was in silver, not gold. Silver broke Rs 6,650 — the line that had acted as support four separate times — and closed at Rs 6,600. Beneath it there is only September's floor at Rs 6,550, and then a long drop to August's Rs 6,250. When the smaller, faster metal breaks first, it is usually a lead indicator rather than an isolated event.

Gold now sits at Rs 437,000, exactly Rs 1,000 above September's Rs 436,000 low. That is the single most important number in this market. Below it, the next real level is Rs 428,500 — August's floor, and the line whose loss would end five consecutive months of rising monthly lows, which is the entire structural case for the bull side. Above, resistance begins at Rs 442,500, then the 100-day average near Rs 445,900, then the Rs 447,500 gap that is still unfilled. Internationally, $4,200 is the pivot gold must reclaim on a weekly basis; above it the 100-day average at $4,280 opens up, while below sit $4,127 and the $4,000 zone. Silver's $60 is immediately underfoot.

Next week, three things. Whether gold can reclaim $4,200 — failing to do so after a payrolls miss this severe is itself a bearish tell. Treasury yields, because every rally is temporary while the ten-year holds above 5.20%. And US-Iran escalation risk, which is keeping crude bid. The FOMC meets 27–28 October, and with a hike now largely priced out, the inflation data arriving before then carries far more weight than this jobs report did.
