Gold Tops $4,400 for the First Time Since June

After Friday's dramatic rally, covered in detail in our previous article, gold has extended its momentum into the new week. Today, Goldalyze prices local gold at Rs 455,000 per tola, up Rs 5,000 from Saturday's Rs 450,000. Silver has climbed from Rs 6,750 to Rs 6,900 today, a gain of Rs 150. Internationally, gold trades at $4,400.00, up $56.70 from Saturday's $4,343.30. Silver sits at $65.110.

Monday saw gold open at its highest level since early June, reaching $4,400 — a continuation of Friday's weak-jobs-report rally that has now cut September rate-hike odds to just 44%. President Trump said the US is currently "low-keying" negotiations with Iran. Today, Tuesday, gold pushed further to $4,445, a two-month high, before easing back to $4,382 as investors took profits. That pullback reflects growing concern that US and Iran demands are becoming more entrenched, eroding hopes for a near-term end to the war, alongside worry that rising oil prices could revive inflation pressure and complicate the Fed's rate path.

An interesting thread this week is continued buying from Chinese institutional investors, who are building bullion positions as a hedge against volatility in other markets. China-listed gold ETFs have posted their longest run of inflows in months. This growing institutional appetite lines up with what we're seeing more broadly — genuine market interest is picking up as gold keeps testing new highs.

All eyes now turn to Wednesday and Thursday's inflation data. July's CPI report lands Wednesday, followed by PPI and retail sales Thursday. Hotter-than-expected numbers could push the Fed toward holding or even raising rates at next month's meeting, pressuring gold. Softer data could give the current rally further fuel.

On the intraday technical picture, gold faces resistance at $4,349–$4,368, with a breakout opening the path to $4,430 and then $4,482. Support sits at $4,299 and then $4,223. For silver, $65.21 is the key level to watch on the upside, while a break below $63.10 could open a path toward $61.16.

Watch the market closely through Wednesday's CPI release — it's likely to set the tone for the rest of the week.
