Day 274 of 2026. Ninety-one days remain.

September is finished, and it was the worst month for gold and silver since the war began in February. But the number that matters for Pakistani holders is not the size of the fall. It is the size of the gap between what the world lost and what we did.

According to Goldalyze rate data, Pakistan gold closed September at Rs 441,000 per tola against August's Rs 455,000 — a decline of Rs 14,000, or 3.08%. The month's range ran from Rs 436,000 to Rs 465,500. Silver 999 closed at Rs 6,650 against Rs 6,950, down Rs 300 or 4.32%, with a monthly range of Rs 6,550 to Rs 7,100. This morning Karachi and Lahore opened at Rs 441,000 and silver at Rs 6,700, with Peshawar at Rs 455,000 and the local average at Rs 435,500. Official sarafa rates are confirmed at 3 PM.

Internationally, gold fell 8.5% across September to close near $4,160 an ounce and silver dropped 13.5% to $60.33. Pakistan fell 3.08%. Our market absorbed barely a third of the global decline.

That has a price, and it is now visible. At $4,160 and an interbank dollar of 277.16, import parity works out to roughly Rs 432,300 per tola. The market is at Rs 441,000. Pakistan is trading about Rs 8,700 above parity — a 2% premium.

Follow that number across the last three weeks, because the reversal is complete. On 12 September Goldalyze reported the local rate sitting Rs 6,000 below parity. By 19 September the gap had closed to zero. By 26 September Pakistan was Rs 2,200 above. Today it is Rs 8,700 above. The only thing producing that premium is physical demand — wedding season, which builds from October through December every year.

This cuts both ways, and subscribers should be clear about which side they are on. The good news is that Pakistani buyers are holding this market up while the world sells. The risk is that if international prices stay here, there is up to Rs 8,700 of catch-down embedded in the local rate, and it opens the moment physical demand thins.

The cause of September's damage was never in the metals. It was in the US bond market. The ten-year TIPS yield — the real, inflation-adjusted return on Treasuries — rose roughly 0.44 percentage points in September, the fastest monthly increase in four years, and now sits close to a record high. The nominal ten-year climbed about 0.49 points, its steepest monthly advance since September 2023, finishing above 5.2% with the thirty-year above 5.5%. When real yields reprice that fast, the asset that pays nothing pays the bill first.

The pivot was 16 September, when the Federal Reserve raised rates for the first time in three years — unanimously, to 3.75%–4.00% — with sixteen of eighteen policymakers projecting another increase before year-end. New York Fed President John Williams followed by saying a further hike late this year could be appropriate. The worst session came on Monday 28 September, when gold fell 3.71% in a single day to $4,127 and silver 5.41% to $60.81, the lowest closes since 4 August. Pakistan gapped that morning from Rs 447,500 to Rs 438,000, and that gap remains open.

There was a brief reprieve on 30 September, when second-quarter US growth was revised up from 1.5% to 2.2% and the PCE inflation measure was cut by 0.3 points. Gold spiked to $4,218 and silver to $61.50 inside minutes — then gave it all back as the dollar firmed and crude rose.

Now the part nobody is reporting. Despite that month, the structure held.

Pakistan gold's monthly low has risen for five consecutive months: Rs 422,500 in June, Rs 424,500 in July, Rs 428,500 in August, Rs 436,000 in September. Every monthly floor is above the last. Silver shows the same: Rs 6,150 in July, Rs 6,250 in August, Rs 6,550 in September.

October. Four things. Friday's US employment report. The September inflation report mid-month. The FOMC on 27–28 October. And the US midterms on 3 November, after which Trump has said the Iran war may end.
